JERUSALEM, considered a holy place by millions, has seen more bloody battles and deaths over centuries than probably any other place on earth.

What is strange and weird is the continuing animosity even after a thousand years, among the peoples, all claiming to be descendants of a prophet, Abraham of yore.

Over the centuries, Jews, Christians, and Muslims have shed a great deal of blood in the name of their beliefs.

Followers of these three Abrahamic religions talk of their love of peace as preached by their prophets, even while spreading mutual hatred and indulging in mindless killings.

What drives this unceasing, madness and unending ritual of conflicts?

AL AQSA MOSQUE VIOLENCE

The mosque’s origins stretch back to the seventh century. It was first built in A.D. 637, just five years after the prophet’s death. It has been destroyed, rebuilt, and renovated multiple times.

The holy month of Ramadan of Muslims commenced on 12 April 2021. It is a time of fasting and prayers for Muslims around the world. Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is administered by the Jordanians, and thousands of Muslims, especially Palestinians, gather for prayers at the site.

Fearing the aftereffects of COVID 19, and expectation of violence, the administration had decreed that this year the congregation will be limited to 10,000 persons per day only.

Not only were the number of participants far exceeded, but the fears of violence also turned out to be true. The violence that erupted on the 12 April continues to this day and has engulfed many more places in Israel, widening of the conflict between Palestinian Muslims and Israeli Jews is feared.

The violence that erupted in the vicinity of Al Aqsa Mosque once again after Friday prayers, when crowds of Palestinians apparently instigated by Hamas, (considered a terrorist organisation by many, a defender of the oppressed by an equal number), started to throw stones and burning tyres.

To the Israelis,, in whose territory Jerusalem falls today, it appeared to be a wilful repetition of innumerable past provocations, attempt to breach peaceful prayers, create disturbances, and ensure that the area remains disturbed.

The Israeli police tried to contain the violence by raging mobs, with tear gas and rubber bullets. In the melee there were casualties on both sides, Israeli and Palestinian.

Both sides accuse one another of extreme provocation. It was only a matter of time before the matters escalated. A month has passed with no end to the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

In the brief period of a month, Hamas has fired more than a thousand rockets from Gaza, against Israel, leading to deaths of Israeli civilians including women and children.

Israel has retaliated, to protect its civilian population. Last reported, some Hamas leaders have also been neutralised.

What is tragic is the casualty of innocents, both Israelis and Palestinians.

Since 10 May, at least 69 Palestinians have been killed, including at least 17 children, and seven Israelis have been killed, including one child.[11][27][28][29][30] According to the Israel Défense Forces, at least 15 of the Palestinian casualties were confirmed to be Hamas militants, and some other Palestinian civilian casualties were caused by errant rocket launches within Gaza.[31] As of 12 May 2021, both Israel and the Palestinian National Authority reported at least 300 Palestinian injuries in Gaza[32][33][34] and over 200 Israeli injuries.[6] Wiki

Commencement of Ramadan & Disturbances

Problems had started with the commencement of Ramadan on 13 of April.

On 22 April itself “At least 125 people were injured Thursday when Palestinian protesters, angered by chants of “death to Arabs” from far-right Jewish demonstrators, clashed repeatedly with police.”

“Skirmishes broke out again on Friday when tens of thousands of Muslim worshippers left Jerusalem’s revered Al-Aqsa mosque after night prayers and found themselves confronted by dozens of armed police, some on horseback.

“Protesters hurled water bottles at police, who fired stun grenades to disperse them. The violence was the worst in years between Israeli police and Palestinians in the disputed Holy City.”

External Interference and Incitement

All Muslim countries[1] have expressed distress and sympathy at the condition of Palestinians. They have unilaterally condemned Israel’s actions against Palestinians. However there has been no condemnation of Hamas which has fired over One thousand rockets against Israeli villages.

NO EARLY END TO VIOLENCE

The recent moves towards peaceful talks between Israel and Arab countries, Saudi Arabia and UAE, has obviously not gone down well with Hamas, who fear loss of influence and finances that used to come flooding in from Arab countries.

Iran and Syria are known supporters of Hamas. While some of the rockets fored at Israeli villages are loacally produce Iran is supposed to be supplying Rockets to Hamas. Sunni Terorist organisation around the world are sympathetic to Hamas and keep egging it towrds added violence.

Countries like Indonesia and Pakistan are openly supporting Hamas.

Right now it appears that matters may get worse before they get better. Hamas is digging its heel in and calling it the Third Intifada.

· First Intifada, a Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation lasting from December 1987 to 1993.

Second Intifada September 2000 During the first month of the Intifada, 141 Palestinians were killed and 5,984 were wounded, while 12 Israelis were killed and 65 wounded.[59] Wiki
